Whispers of Cthulhu

Investigators race to find the signs before the cult drags everyone under.

3-8 players15-30 min

Overview

A fast game of hidden roles, played one phone per person. Secret teams of Investigators and Cultists share a hidden deck spread face-down across everyone's hands. On your turn you shine the lantern on another player and flip one of their cards. Investigators want to uncover every Elder Sign. Cultists want the lantern to run out of time, or to flip the thing waiting in the dark. Nobody can prove what they hold, so every claim is a bluff worth doubting.

How it plays

  • Each player is secretly dealt a role, Investigator or Cultist. You only know your own.
  • Cards are dealt face-down into every hand: Elder Signs, blanks, and a single Cthulhu.
  • On your turn, reveal one face-down card from another player, then pass the lantern to them.
  • Investigators win the moment all Elder Signs are revealed.
  • Cultists win if Cthulhu is revealed, or if four rounds pass with signs still hidden.
  • Talk and bluff freely. Everyone knows the counts, but never which card is which.
